With plenty of culture, nature and scenery to enjoy in the Rhotia, Karatu and Ngorongoro areas, our lodge is ideally located for multiple day trips and we can arrange these for you while you stay at Pembeni Rhotia.

Mto Wa Mbu village walk

During this walk you go on a 2-hour stroll through the local farming village of Mto wa Mbu. This village is unique in Tanzania since it is home to over 120 different tribes from across Africa. The walk will take you to see a choice of local farms, schools, churches, a milling machine and much more.

Your guide will join you and act as the facilitator to ensure you enjoy the trip and are safe. Optional to this walk is a local Swahili lunch served in the middle of the village.

Tuk Tuk tour

Guests who don’t have time, energy or the ability to walk, can do a village tour in a Tuk Tuk motor bike. Being light, small and easy to ride this vehicle is ideal to get between farms and local houses. A Tuk Tuk can carry up to three passengers on a bench seat behind. Your guide will either drive the vehicle or will be inside the vehicle to make sure you enjoy this experience.

Mto wa Mbu village mountain bike tour

You will enjoy a 2-hour mountain bike ride through the farming village of Mto wa Mbu. On this ride you visit a selection of local farms, schools, a church, milling machine, a local bar and enjoy the sights and sounds of this vibrant village. What you visit is up to you and your guide might advise what to do depending on the day of the week. Our experienced guide meets you at the Wayo Africa office in Mto wa Mbu from where your ride starts on fairly flat single tracks.

Mto wa Mbu and Great Rift Valley mountain bike ride

Experience local cultures from your bike on a 3-hour mountain bike ride through the farming village of Mto wa Mbu. You visit a selection of local farms, schools, church, milling machine a local bar and enjoy the sights and sounds of this vibrant village. What you visit is up to you and your guide might advise what to do depending on the day of the week as well. This is a great opportunity to see local people, wildlife, amazing areas and scenery. Once through the village you cycle out on to the lake shore within the Migunga Wildlife Management Area where there are stunning vistas of the lake, the Rift Valley Wall and small herds of wildlife. The ride is on fairly flat single tracks (off road). We can include a local lunch in the middle of the village.

Canoeing Lake Manyara (water dependant)

During this 2.5 hour canoe on Lake Manyara you get a unique perspective on Tanzanian wildlife and landscape. A well-trained guide will accompany the safari. He will ensure your safety and enjoyment while explaining more about the natural history of Manyara and surroundings. The best way to make this activity work is to have your guide take you on a game drive as normal and meet our guides at the Endala picnic site either in the morning or the afternoon. Your guide can pick you up a few hours later at Msasa lake view point (note the water level in the lake needs to be sufficient).

Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park is known for its tree-climbing lions, hippo pools and thousands of flamingos which give the lake a hazy pink tint. Here you can spot fish eagles, elephants, giraffes and the largest concentration of baboons anywhere in the world. Lake Manyara is the ideal location for a game drive because of its many ecosystems. The area is a melting pot for all types of animals and plants - with the lake, the rift valley cliffs, ground water forest, Ngorongoro highlands and the dry Tarangire system all close by.

Lake Manyara Night game drive

This experience is completely different from a day safari. A whole new world of animal species (nocturnal) awaits you. The less seen animals are generally active at night and Lake Manyara National Park is full of them! Porcupines, genets and civet cats are frequent visitors to the forest and also hippos, lions and leopards. Our guides will explain the animal movements in the night and all the different species. After the night game drive we can bring you back to the gate where your safari started or return to your accommodation.
